Christmas season is upon us. For many, this begins after Thanksgiving. For me, it begins after Halloween. I have never been into Fall decorations, so I jump right into the lights and glitter of Christmas. But all the sparkle can blind us from the purpose of Christmas.
Christmas is a celebration of our Savior, Jesus Christ. It is our Messiah’s birthday.
When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. Matthew 2:10 (NIV)
When the Magi saw the star, they were overjoyed because they knew Jesus Christ was born. They were overjoyed just knowing He was born. It was the beginning of fulfilling a prophecy and the New Covenant with Him. We should have even greater joy knowing what Jesus did for us (John 3:16).
Christmas is celebrated in December because Christians had to hide their belief in earlier times. They masked their celebration during the pagan holiday celebrating the winter solstice. Being a Christian can feel like an outsider in the world, but we are not of this world (John 18:36). You are never alone because you have Jesus. He is your helper and comforter (John 14:26).
The world will continue to try to remove the meaning of Christmas. I know the reason for the season, and I am keeping Christ in Christmas!
