Have You Denied Christ?

Today is Easter—the day of resurrection of Jesus Christ. The most important event for us! Many of us know the story of Jesus’ crucifixion and his resurrection on the third day, but today Peter’s story weighed heavy on my heart.

Jesus knew Peter would deny him three times before the rooster crowed (Matthew 26:34). After Jesus died on the cross, Peter was devastated. He knew his denial was wrong because Jesus is the Son of God. He felt guilt. He felt shame. He felt condemned. How could Peter move forward knowing what he had done?

Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you that this night, before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.” – Matthew 26:34 (NKJV)

The Bible tells us that Jesus came to Peter after His resurrection. He wanted Peter to confirm his love for Him (John 21:15-17). Peter confirmed his love for Jesus, then continued to live for God and to spread the Gospel.

15 So when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these?” He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He said to him, “Feed My lambs.” 16 He said to him again a second time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?” He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He said to him, “Tend My sheep.” 17 He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?” Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, “Do you love Me?” And he said to Him, “Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You.” Jesus said to him, “Feed My sheep. –John 21:15-17 (NKJV)

Have you denied Christ? I denied Jesus Christ for twelve years! Our reasons for denying Christ and running from God may differ, but often it is linked to our hurt and pain. Something we don’t understand. Something that we can’t fix. Something that we can’t control. Or something that we believe because of lies.

From the world’s perspective, I accomplished a lot during the years I ran from God. I have a beautiful family, held good jobs, got an advanced education, and have recognition in my career field. But from the Word’s perspective, I was empty and living in sin without salvation. I had a Do Not Pass Go and Go Directly to Hell card. When you run from God, it doesn’t mean your life will be all turmoil and hardships. You will experience good things according to the world. But denying Christ is detrimental to you today and for eternity.

Without Jesus, you can’t have salvation. Without salvation, you can’t have Heaven. Without Heaven, your life on earth is without Him. You will experience tribulation whether you are a Christian or not. The difference is that with Jesus, you have the Kingdom and all that it offers including Heaven. You have the greatest resources in the Holy Spirit and Armor of God!

It is important to know that regardless of where you are today, Jesus is ready for you! It doesn’t matter if you denied Him for one hour, one day, one year, or one decade. Jesus loves you always, and He will always welcome you home. All you need to do is accept Him as your Lord and Savior.

Pray out loud the following: Jesus, I believe you died on the cross for me and rose again. Jesus, I ask you to come into my heart to be my Lord and Savior. I will follow you all the days of my life. By faith in Your Word, I receive salvation now. Thank You for saving me! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
