Football season is upon us, and all the hype has begun. Many are wearing their team colors and cheering for their hometown heroes.
Sports are known to bring millions together. Historically, sports have united people and communities even through difficult times. Some experiences have been so impactful that these true stories were made into movies.
Miracle lets us live through the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team who beat the Soviets during a period when they had previously won four consecutive Olympic gold medals. A League of Their Own shows us how women played baseball to boost the mood of Americans during World War II when pro baseball players were drafted. Remember the Titans and Invictus both demonstrate how sports can unite everyone together even through difficult racial conflicts.
Teams unite so many people, regardless of their backgrounds. As Christians, we all have a different story. Maybe you were addicted to drugs or alcohol before giving your life to Christ. Maybe you had a failed marriage, or you didn’t even believe in God in the past.
I love the Les Brown quote, “You don’t have to be great to get started, but you have to get started to be great.” This applies perfectly to our relationship with Jesus. We can be a mess or at our lowest point, but once we accept Jesus into our hearts as our Lord and Savior, we are new creatures in Him (2 Corinthians 5:17).
Each of us has a purpose in the body of Christ. And together we make up the body of Christ. We are all ONE TEAM in Christ Jesus!
Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.
1 Corinthians 12:12 (NIV)
Last weekend, we had a tent at the 37th Annual NKF Rich Salick Pro-Am Surfing Festival. People travel from all over to attend the surf contest. We spoke with many people that shared the love of God. Some were locals while others were from out-of-state. We even met someone from the UK this year.
Regardless of where we are from, we all shared our love for Jesus. We are all part of Team Jesus!
Being on Team Jesus does not mean everything is easy. Sometimes you get muddy or hit so hard you can’t breathe. But you will be victorious and the Super Bowl champs in the end. No matter what happens on earth, if you keep Jesus in your heart, you will win because you get heaven and eternal life.
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
John 1:5 (NIV)
If you are ready to accept Jesus Christ into your heart, pray out loud the following:
Jesus, I believe you died on the cross for me and rose again. Jesus, I ask you to come into my heart to be my Lord and Savior. I will follow you all the days of my life. By faith in Your Word, I receive salvation now. Thank You for saving me! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
